Job Opportunity at Madera County Arts Council

Teaching Artists
Madera County Arts Council
Madera County, CA

Are you an artist who has a passion for teaching young people? We are looking for teaching artists!

The Madera County Arts Council (MCAC) operates the Circle Gallery with an 800 square foot classroom.  We hire teaching artists for MCAC workshop classes here at our location and we also hire for the Madera Unified School District (MUSD). The logistics and time commitment vary, and all materials required to teach these classes are supplied by MCAC.

Teaching Artists: Madera County Arts Council teaching artists teach their focus area of art to local Madera residents, as well as to MUSD students.  Our teaching artists can be disciplined in various areas of visual and preforming arts, including but not limited to; painting, drawing, sculpting, crafting, animation, photography, music and dance.

Currently, we place teaching artists throughout MUSD to teach art at specific school site’s in their after-school programs.  Classes typically take place Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. We usually schedule for one hour with 1st – 3rd grades, one hour with 4th -6th grades, OR 2 hours with 7th and 8th grades.

We also schedule our teaching artists within MUSD’s 3rd and 4th grades, for 1-hour lessons per grade level classroom, 1 lesson per week.  Up to six 3rd or 4th grade classrooms at a school site might be available which would create a full school day. In addition, there may be only two hours of instruction depending on the school.  One hour of paid prep time is included, so the minimum shift is paid at three hours.

Artist’s workshops:  These workshops could be a one-day class that is several hours long or a recurring class which would last for several weeks.  We will work with individual teaching artists on lesson plans, class counts, scheduling, and advertisement.  Student tuition is based on the costs to provide the workshops.  We are always open to hear any new proposals from our local teaching artists.

Pay rates

The pay rate is $23.00 per hour when working for MUSD.  The pay rate is $15.00 per hour when teaching in our Circle Gallery classroom or outside of MUSD school facilities.  MCAC teaching artists also receive assignment for non-MUSD schools such as local charter or private schools in which they are still paid at the $23.00 per hour rate with a one hour paid prep.

Please note:  With the current safety precautions surrounding the pandemic, some of your work will be done remotely.

If you or anyone you know has a passion for art and would like to share it with our community through instruction this might be the perfect opportunity.
