Visual, Performing and Cultural Teaching Artists for MCAC Artists in the Schools Programs.
Madera County Arts Council is currently recruiting experienced visual, performing and cultural
arts teachers for our Artists to the Schools enrichment programs in Madera County.

MCAC Teaching Artists carry the mission of the council to ignite the imaginations of young people through the arts. Teaching Artists are directly responsible for developing engaging curricula. She / he will be responsible for maintaining the quality of our programs, developing strong relationships with our partner schools, and contributing to the mission of the organization.

Afterschool and Daytime Enrichment Program Description:
Madera County Arts Council enrichment programs runs: August 24, 2016 – June 3rd, 2017.

Afterschool Enrichment Program:
Instruction takes place Monday-Friday afternoons. (3-5pm).
Enrichment instruction offers two class sessions for one hour per week per school site.
Classes are for a maximum of 20 students and divided by grade levels (1st – 8 th).

Daytime Enrichment Program:
Instruction takes place Monday – Friday between the hours of 8 – 2:30 pm. (approx.)
Enrichment instruction is offered to 1st – 8th grade class level from 1 – 5 hours per day per school site.
Classes are for a maximum of 20 – 30+ students and divided by grade levels (1st – 8th).

General Responsibilities:
• Attend a mandatory orientation meeting at the end of July.
• Attend all required staff bi – monthly meetings.
• Manage a group of 20-30 participants in each class.
• Create on-going, age appropriate curriculum and lesson plans that promote active learning, skill-building,
and aesthetic self esteem.
• Create a safe learning environment.
• Setup-cleanup of classroom.
• Participate and contribute to the council’s evaluation and data collection activities as needed.

Disciplines: Drawing, Painting, Ceramic, Mixed Media, Drama, Dance, Music.

Requirements for the position include a demonstrably strong portfolio and background in and working knowledge of the visual, performing and cultural arts in a related subject. At least two years of experience with classroom management and teaching children aged 5-17 years old is strongly recommended.  A commitment to equitable arts education in public school is strongly preferred, as is a sense of humor, stamina and dedication to the role of the arts in visual, performing and cultural arts development. Teaching Artists must have their own means of transportation and must clear personal background check before beginning work.  We encourage English and Spanish Bilingual speaking teaching artists and Art Education majors  to apply!

Compensation: $23 / hour.
