Summer Fine Arts for Kids
Dates:  Week 1; June 16-20, 2008, Week 2; June 23-27, 2008, and Week 3; July 7-11, 2008
Students in grades 2-8 are grouped by age to receive instruction in musical theater, band, art, dance, creative writing, drama and photography.  At the close of each week's session, parents and friends are invited to a theme performance.  Children can attend full day or half day (either a.m. or p.m.).  This Summer's themes are:  Week 1, "High School Musical 2"; Week 2, "Dreamcatcher"; Week 3, "School Daze".  To register, please call 1-559-683-7071.

Heart of California Quilter's Guild
The Heart of California Quilter's Guild meets the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Frank Bergon Center.  The door opens at 6:30pm and the meetings start at 7:00pm.

Writers Groups

North Fork Community Art Gallery
The North Fork Community Gallery is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 1:00pm-5:00pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00am-3:00pm or by special appointment.  Artists wishing to join the gallery to display their work or join as a supporting member should call 877-2487.

Madera County Arts Council Art Class- Watercolor
Starting in March, Artist TBA will be teaching a beginning/intermediate watercolor class at the Madera United Methodist Church in Madera. Emphasis will be on use of color and composition. Class will meet two Mondays per month, from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. (Dates to be determined). The cost is $90.00 per person. "Paint the Town Purple"

The Community Art Gallery of North Fork is proud to announce that it is joining in on the "Paint the Town Purple" event to take place all over North Fork on Saturday, May 3rd. 10% of all proceeds from the sale of Gallery Art Work on May 3rd will be donated to the Eastern Madera County American Cancer Society as a Memoriam to Earl Dunavan.

Gallery Member Artist Sharon Bortugno has donated a beautiful watercolor painting which will go to the highest bidder in a silent auction - 100% of the proceeds from that sale will go the Cancer Society. You can bid anytime on May 3rd between 11am and 5pm, and need not be present to win. Light refreshments will be served. Glorious Gardens Tour

Sacramento-California State Fair:  Call for Art!
Date:  Entry Deadline is Friday, May 30th, 2008
Cost:  $20.00 per artwork
California Fine Art, the juried art show of California State Fair (August 15th-September 1st) seeks entries from California artists aged 18 and over.  Entries must be contemporary, completed within 2 years prior to the deadline.  Over $21,500 in prize money will be awarded.  Divisions and Classes in all 2-D and 3-D media as well as film, video, animation, digital art, and photography are acceptable.  Special theme divisions include Western & Equine Art, Recycled Art, The Art of Culture, Vino! The Madera County Arts Council and the Madera Center Community College will present a week of classic films representing the dramatic stories of the many cultures represented in the Central Valley.  Films such as Grapes of Wrath and A Walk in the Clouds, along with several foreign films and some films by independent filmmakers will be presented at the College site on Avenue 12 during the four days.  Speakers, a BBQ at the Madera Center on Saturday and other events will accompany the film festival.  Mark these dates on your calendar and stay tuned for more details!
